THE PEELED KING HAS PASSED AWAY
Last Friday, December 30, the icon of world soccer, King Pele, passed away at the age of 82. The soccer world is mourning the loss of one of the major players in its history.
The soccer world has just lost an icon. This Friday, December 30, 2022, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pele, died at the age of 82 years, following a cancer. Indeed, it was now several weeks that the health of the Brazilian star had become very worrying. His family gathered around him while the soccer world and all Brazilians held their breath. Unfortunately, the sad news has arrived.
A SOCCER MONUMENT
Pele is a monument of soccer. He is the only player to have won three World Cups (in 1958, 1962 and 1970). Having contributed to the first successes of the Brazilian team, he was named “Athlete of the Century” in 1999 by the International Olympic Committee. One of his notable achievements was winning his first World Cup at only 17 years old, including a magnificent goal against the French team in the semi-final. In total, he scored no less than 97 goals in 91 appearances for the national team.
HIS JOURNEY WITH SANTOS F.C
However, the Seleçao jersey was not the only one worn by the legend. Indeed, he also contributed to the history of Santos FC. Prior to his signing in 1956, the club had only won two Sao Paulo regional titles. With the arrival of the Brazilian genius a year later, the club won the national championship five times (1961 to 1965), two Copas Libertadores and two Intercontinental Cups (1962 and 1963). Shortly after his departure, Santos FC will be ranked as the5th greatest team of the 20th century by Fifa. At the end of his career, “King” Pele was the only player to score more than 1,000 goals (1,281 in total) in 1,363 games, all in a 21-year career. Monstrous.
